How to use the Wordle solver

  1. Green letters: put each green letter in the box for its spot. If the third letter of your guess turned green, it goes in the third box.
  2. Yellow letters: type each yellow letter under the spot where it turned yellow. The word has that letter, just not there. One box can hold more than one letter if you have seen several yellows in the same spot.
  3. Gray letters: type every gray letter into one box, in any order.

The list updates as you type. Play the best next guess in your game, then add the new colors here. Most puzzles are down to a handful of words after two or three rounds.

Wordle solver FAQs

Does this show today’s Wordle answer?

No. It only lists words that match the letters you enter, so the puzzle stays yours to finish. If you want hints or the answer itself, go to Wordle Answer Today.

Which words does it use?

It searches every five letter word Wordle accepts as a guess, close to 15,000 words, so a new or unusual answer is never left out. Common answer words are listed first. Less common words that also fit are counted below them, and “Show less common words” lists them too. The list is stored on this site, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How is the best next guess picked?

For each word you could play, the solver works out how the colors would split the words that are still possible, and suggests the guess that leaves the fewest on average. When hundreds of words are left, it scores guesses by how well their letters split the list instead.

Does it work in hard mode?

Yes. Tick “Hard mode” and the suggestions only use words that could still be the answer, so every suggested guess keeps your green letters in place and reuses your yellow ones, as hard mode requires.
