Dordle: Play Two Wordle Grids at Once

Dordle gives you two hidden five letter words and one shared keyboard. Every guess you type is played against both grids at the same time, and you get seven guesses in total. That is one extra guess compared with Wordle for twice the work, which is what makes the game tight.

How to play Dordle

  1. Type any real five letter word and press Enter. Guesses that are not in the word list are rejected.
  2. The guess lands on both grids at once, and each grid scores it against its own hidden word.
  3. Green means the letter is correct and in the right position on that grid.
  4. Yellow means the letter is in that word but in a different position.
  5. Gray means the letter is not in that word at all.
  6. A grid dims once you solve it. Your remaining guesses keep working on the grid you have left.
  7. You win by solving both words within seven guesses.

The on screen keyboard is shared. A letter is coloured by the best result it has earned across the grids you have not solved yet, so a key can show green while one of the two words still does not contain it.

Dordle strategy: making seven guesses count

Two grids and seven guesses gives you very little slack. These are the habits that help most.

  • Spend the first two guesses on coverage, not on winning. A pair such as SLATE and CORNY tests ten different letters and usually leaves both grids with something to work from.
  • Read both grids before your third guess. The grid with more greens is normally the one to close first, because finishing it frees every remaining guess for the other word.
  • Do not chase a nearly finished grid if the second grid has told you almost nothing. Losing on the last word is the most common way a round ends.
  • Watch for split letters. A letter can be green on one grid and absent on the other. The keyboard shows you the best result, so check the grids themselves when a key looks better than your guesses suggest.
  • Keep a real word in reserve. Random letter strings are rejected, so a throwaway probe still has to be a valid word.

Each format gives you five guesses more than the number of grids. That sounds generous until you try it: with eight grids those five spare guesses are shared across all of them, while in Dordle they are all yours for two words. Dordle is the gentlest way into multi grid play, and it is a good place to test opening pairs before you take them to Octordle.
