Who we are
This is a small site, run by one person rather than a newsroom. That shapes what you find here. Instead of chasing every puzzle answer every day, the focus is on a handful of tools that stay useful: a practice game you can play as often as you like, and solvers that help when you are stuck on your own board.
What you can do here
- Wordle practice game and solver. Play unlimited rounds, and filter five letter words by your green, yellow and gray clues.
- Dordle. Two hidden words, one shared keyboard, seven guesses.
- Octordle. Eight grids and thirteen guesses, for when two is not enough.
- Quordle Solver. Narrow down four grids at once.
- Crossword Solver. Search by clue or by letter pattern.
How our word lists are built
A word tool is only as good as the list behind it, so it is worth being open about ours.
- The five letter answer list holds 2,324 words, the ones a round can actually pick as a target.
- The five letter guess list holds 6,716 words, so uncommon but real words are still accepted when you type them.
- The general word list holds 46,600 words between three and nine letters, and powers the pattern and letter searches.
The general list is built from a standard American English spelling dictionary, then filtered. Only plain a to z words survive, which removes proper nouns, abbreviations such as blvd and dept, Roman numerals, and jargon that would be frustrating to see in a word game. Each list is a plain text file that your browser downloads once. The matching then happens on your own device.
Who writes and builds this
Saif runs Try Hard Wordle. He looks after the tools on the site, including the Wordle solver, Octordle and Dordle, and writes the guides that go with them. He plays the daily puzzles himself, which is usually where the ideas for new tools come from.
Every article on the site carries his name and the date it was last updated, so you can see who wrote a page and how current it is.
How we work
- No daily answer pages. We do not publish today’s Wordle answer, or today’s answer for any other puzzle. If you want to be told the answer, this is the wrong site. If you want to work it out faster, it is the right one.
- Your letters stay with you. The solvers and games run in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server.
- We say when a game is random. Our practice games pick their words at random rather than following a daily schedule, and we say so on the page instead of implying a daily puzzle.
- Pages get updated, and dated. When a guide changes, the update date on it changes too.
- No scraped content. The guides here are written for this site.
